Girl Scout Day

SWE members assisted local girl scout troops on building resourceful battery operated cars...but they really did not need that much help. Maybe we just got a smarty-pants group of girl scouts, but after organizing this event, SWE members believe the future is looking bright for women engineers.

Members of SWE gathered for the General Body Meeting this past Wednesday to recap their successful year by running activities such as Girl Scout Day and organizing an inspirational talk with women in the nuclear engineering field. They went over great volunteer opportunities for students to tutor young girls, as well as made plans for the rest of the semester which will include another Girl Scout Day featuring solar panel cars. Then they all participated in a little "March Mudness," a much needed destresser.

It was great to get together and SWE is excited to continue their great work through the rest of the semester.

Girl Scout Day

SWE members taught girl scouts how to solder, build circuits, and code this past weekend, helping to strengthen girls' interests in engineering... and it was a ton of fun.

Sunny and Successful: The Annual Girl Scout Day

We introduce the girls to sustainable energy and they get a chance to showcase their creativity through building their own solar powered cars with recycled materials!

Girl Scouts and UMass Amherst SWE Celebrate Earth Day!

UMass Amherst SWE and local Girl Scout troops celebrated Earth Day! 🌏 The Girl Scouts learned about renewable energy and made solar powered cars from recycled materials! The Girl Scouts also had a chance to learn about wind energy. UMass Amherst's Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition team showed the girls a wind turbine and wind tunnel that they have been doing research on. At the end of the day, the Girl Scouts tested and showed off their solar powered cars around the engineering quad! sWe had a blast! 🌞♻️💨🌍 

March Mudness Midterm Stress Relief Event

Last night the UMass Society of Women Engineers hosted a March Mudness Midterm stress relief event! The girls painted ceramic pots, planted succulents, and ate pudding dirt cups! It was a great way to step away from studying, socialize with other students, and de-stress! sWe had a blast! 

Region F Conference at West Point, NY

This past week UMass SWE headed to West Point, NY for the Region F Conference! At the conference, the girls were able to meet other SWE members from other colleges, attend workshops and talks, network with professionals and attend the career fair! It was a fun filled weekend and sWe were happy to be a part of it! 

Valentine's Day Stress Relief Event!

This past week UMass SWE had their first stress relief event of the semester! Members decorated heart shaped sugar cookies and crafted cards for More Love Letters. The cards and letters will be shipped around the country to those in need of some love and encouragement! Thank you to all that participated! We wish you all a very SWEet Valentines Day!
